True Umbrella Can Fill Insurance Gaps

Insurance might be considered a boring topic. But here’s a true and interesting story: A number of years ago in Chicago, an insurance company made possible the detonation of the infamous “Bartman Ball.” No other insurance company would insure the event.

For those not familiar with the story, the Bartman Ball was the baseball missed by Chicago Cubs outfielder Moses Alou (see video) in 2003 when Cubs fan Steve Bartman unfortunately reached over the left field fence and interfered with the catch. The Cubs went on to lose Game 6 of the National League Championship Series and the ball (and Bartman) achieved wide notoriety.

The hated ball ended up being owned by Chicago restaurant owner Grant DePorter. As a promotional stunt and charity event, DePorter decided to publicly blow it up as a good luck gesture for the Cubs.
